Manchester United have secured the signature of former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes on an 18-month deal, with the option to extend for a further year.
The 32-year-old has been a free agent since leaving the Spanish club last summer when his contract at Barcelona expired and he has been training with the Red Devils for three months in order to recover from his anterior cruciate ligament injury he picked up in March.
The Spaniard, who has 20 caps for the national side was in rumours to be closing in on a move to Liverpool, but the shot-stopper has opted Louis van Gaal’s side to provide competition for first choice goalkeeper David de Gea at Old Trafford.

Valdes has won six La Liga titles and three Champions League with Barcelona since making his debut in 2002 as part of Barca’s first team in Spain.
Valdes became Van Gaal’s seventh signing and his first of the January transfer window.
