Tottenham Hotspur are allegedly plotting a bid to sign Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illarramendi, according to the Guardian.
The 25-year-old, who is rated at around £15m, is surplus to requirements at the Spanish capital.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is desperate to sign Illarramendi as a potential alternative to his current midfield target Victor Wanyama of Southampton.
Illarramendi joined Madrid from Real Sociedad in 2013 for £23m, but has struggled to make an impact at the Bernabeu and he was not included by their new manager Rafael Benítez in the La Liga opening match 0-0 draw at Sporting Gijon.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that the Spaniard’s former club Real Sociedad are interested in his services on loan, while Liverpool have also been linked with the midfielder.
