Liverpool are reportedly working on a deal to sign AS Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara, according to Football Insider. The Reds are said to have already opened discussions with the 22-year-old’s representatives as they plot a January move.

Why Liverpool Need Midfield Reinforcements
Andoni Iraola’s side have made an inconsistent start to the season. They beat Atletico Madrid in their opening Champions League fixture and saw off Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup third round, yet only one of their first four Premier League games has ended in victory. Six points leaves them in mid-table, and a meeting with Iraola’s former club AFC Bournemouth awaits this weekend.
Liverpool did not bring in a midfielder over the summer despite Curtis Jones leaving. That means Iraola currently relies on Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Trey Nyoni and Wataru Endo. Endo has been a peripheral figure in recent seasons, while Nyoni is still young and needs time to develop.
Camara’s Profile and Monaco’s Stance
Football Insider claims Liverpool have looked at several options for the winter window but view Camara as their leading target. The midfielder came close to joining Chelsea in the summer, only for Monaco to block the deal, reportedly angering his agent. Even so, he remains focused on the Ligue 1 side and could become available midway through the campaign.
Camara is valued at around £34m by Transfermarkt and is tied to a contract until 2029, which places Monaco in a strong position to demand a substantial fee. He is primarily a right-footed defensive midfielder but is capable of covering in a box-to-box role, and his physical attributes suggest he could cope with the demands of the Premier League.
Opinion: A Shrewd Piece of Business
In our view, Camara ticks plenty of boxes for a squad short on defensive depth, and his age fits Liverpool’s long-term thinking. The question is whether Monaco will sell midseason.
