Everton Keep Talking to Monaco Over £42m Folarin Balogun Transfer

Everton have reportedly maintained contact with AS Monaco forward Folarin Balogun, according to Football Insider.

Everton’s Striker Problem

Beto left for Fiorentina on deadline day without a replacement arriving, so David Moyes began the season with Thierno Barry as his only senior striker. Barry has responded well after a modest first campaign, scoring five goals in seven appearances. Everton have taken nine points from five games and remain unbeaten.

Balogun Deal Could Resurface

Football Insider claim Everton came close to signing the American in the summer before talks collapsed. They continue to speak with his representatives about a January or summer 2027 move, though persuading him may prove difficult given interest from elsewhere.

Monaco Could Cash In

Balogun’s contract runs until 2028, so Monaco may consider selling next year to maximise their return. Transfermarkt values the 25-year-old at around £42m. He contributed to 23 goals last season and impressed for the USA at the World Cup, although he has been on the fringes this term.

Why Balogun Suits Everton

Balogun can lead the line or play wide, offering pace, strength, aerial ability and hard work off the ball. His previous spell at Arsenal means he already knows English football, which should ease any adaptation.

In my view, he would give Moyes a genuine alternative to Barry and valuable competition up front. Everton must still convince him that their project beats rival offers, and that could decide whether this deal ever happens.
