Everton Eye January Loan Swoop for Juventus Midfielder Teun Koopmeiners

Everton are reportedly weighing up a January move for Juventus midfielder Teun Koopmeiners, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport. A loan deal could bring the Dutchman to Merseyside if the Serie A giants decide to part ways.

Koopmeiners Struggles to Settle in Turin

The Netherlands international arrived from Atalanta after a superb spell in Bergamo, where he helped win the Europa League and was involved in 22 goals across all competitions in 2023/24. Juventus paid handsomely, yet life at the Allianz Stadium has proved far from straightforward.

This season has brought some encouragement, with two goal contributions despite only one league start under Luciano Spalletti, who mainly uses him as a rotation option. Even so, Gazzetta claim the Bianconeri will cash in next year if his form does not improve.

Who Else Wants Koopmeiners?

Everton were linked in the summer but never made a formal approach. Newcastle United, AS Monaco and Galatasaray also showed interest and could return in January, making this a potentially crowded race.

Why Everton Need Midfield Reinforcements

Following the departures of Tim Iroegbunam and Idrissa Gana Gueye, David Moyes added Hayden Hackney and Christian Norgaard. However, Norgaard has endured fitness problems, while Hackney is yet to break into the starting XI.

Koopmeiners is a left-footed player who can operate as a holding midfielder or in a box-to-box role, and has also been used at centre-back and as a second striker. Transfermarkt values him at around £12m.

Our Take on a Koopmeiners Move

In my view, his versatility would give Moyes valuable tactical options, and a loan would limit the financial risk given his inconsistent spell in Italy. Questions remain over how he would cope with the Premier League’s intensity, and rival interest could complicate matters. Should he rediscover the form that made Atalanta tick, though, he could be a smart addition at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
