Chelsea Eye £86m Manu Kone Move from Roma in January, But Summer Deal More Likely

Chelsea Plot Midfield Overhaul

Chelsea’s 5-1 win over Bournemouth, which included a Jordan Henderson brace, offered a timely boost. However, the veteran is a short-term fix, and the Blues still need fresh quality in the engine room following Enzo Fernandez’s summer exit.

According to journalist Simon Phillips, Xabi Alonso is plotting a bold January approach for Roma midfielder Manu Kone. Chelsea were keen on the Frenchman in the summer, and missing out on Lamine Camara only adds to their desire. Bournemouth’s Alex Scott also remains on their radar.

Why Kone Suits Alonso’s System

The 25-year-old has become an established France international, and his physicality, press resistance and tidy short and mid-range passing would suit Chelsea’s double pivot. He carries the ball through the lines well, sets the tempo, and his tackling and intensity make him a relentless presence without the ball.

Roma Unlikely to Budge Midseason

The obstacle is price and timing. Gazzetta reports that Roma now value Kone at £86m. Gian Piero Gasperini’s side are also in the Serie A title race, making a midseason sale of a key player hard to imagine.

In my view, Chelsea would be wise to prepare for next summer instead. A January bid might simply drive the price higher, while a patient approach could secure the player on better terms.
