Arsenal and Chelsea are both reportedly monitoring Jarell Quansah, with the Bayer Leverkusen defender said to be open to a Premier League return.

Chelsea Enter the Race
Chelsea are considering a move for the England international, according to Bild via Sport Witness. The Blues would be joining Arsenal in the chase, although they are yet to make contact with Leverkusen or the player’s representatives. That could change in the coming windows.
Quansah came through the ranks at Liverpool, making 58 senior appearances before moving to the BayArena last summer in a €35 million deal. Liverpool did, however, include a buy-back clause, and they are understood to be keeping tabs on his progress too.
Why Arsenal Are Keen
Arsenal reportedly opened talks over Quansah in the summer before turning to his international team-mate Ezri Konsa. Mikel Arteta wants a long-term option capable of playing at centre-back and right-back, and Quansah’s versatility ticks both boxes. The defender has also been finding his rhythm in Germany and is becoming a more regular fixture in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad.
Chelsea’s Tactical Needs
Xabi Alonso is also believed to be searching for a defender who can operate at right-back or as part of a back three. Quansah’s profile appears to fit that brief, though his asking price and other names on Chelsea’s shortlist could complicate matters.
Leverkusen’s Stance
Leverkusen are expected to demand a substantial fee and are unlikely to welcome a January departure. Selling so soon after signing him would leave them short of defensive options mid-season, so any deal may have to wait until next summer.
Our Take
Arsenal look best placed at this stage, given their earlier interest and clear plan for where Quansah would play. Chelsea’s involvement could still drive the price up, though, and with Liverpool’s buy-back clause lurking in the background, Leverkusen hold plenty of leverage. It promises to be a fascinating battle to watch.
