Newcastle United want Yangel Herrera

Newcastle United are set for a transfer tussle with Atletico Madrid and Nottingham Forest over the signing of Girona midfield dynamo Yangel Herrera, according to reports from Fichajes.

The 27-year-old Venezuelan has had a remarkable rise through the football ranks. Initially signed by Manchester City from Atlético Venezuela in 2017, Herrera never featured for the Premier League giants. Instead, he gained valuable experience during loan spells with Granada, Espanyol, and SD Huesca, before finding a permanent home at Girona—another City Football Group club—where he’s blossomed into a La Liga standout under manager Michel.

With a contract running until 2027, Girona are reportedly open to cashing in on Herrera this summer, valuing him around €20 million. That price tag has attracted multiple suitors, with Newcastle keen to bolster their midfield options ahead of the new campaign.

Eddie Howe’s side are looking to reinforce their squad without losing key figures like Bruno Guimarães or Sandro Tonali. While links to Matteo Guendouzi persist, Herrera offers a unique blend of experience, energy, and tactical intelligence—qualities Newcastle crave.

However, the Magpies face stiff competition. Atletico Madrid view Herrera as a potential solution to their midfield revamp, while Nottingham Forest—who are targeting European qualification—are eager to add proven top-flight quality.

The race is on, and Newcastle must act fast if they want to win the battle for Herrera’s signature.
