Two Premier League clubs are circling one of Serie A’s most exciting defensive talents. Tottenham Hotspur and Everton are both reportedly tracking Lazio centre-back Mario Gila, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes — and this one could run and run.
Why Spurs Need a New Centre-Back
Spurs’ defensive department is in flux. Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven — arguably their two best options — have both been linked with exits amid a difficult season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Meanwhile, Radu Drăgușin has struggled to make an impact since his move from Genoa, with injuries hampering his progress. Ange Postecoglou clearly needs reinforcements at the back.

Who Is Mario Gila?
The 25-year-old Spaniard is a commanding 6ft 1in right-footed centre-back who ticks nearly every box. Quick, strong, aerially dominant, and comfortable playing out from the back — Gila is exactly what modern top-flight football demands. He’s racked up eight clean sheets in 29 appearances this season, including a standout display in Lazio’s 1-0 win over AC Milan.
The Transfer Landscape
Valued at around £26 million and entering the final 15 months of his contract, Gila represents genuine value. Lazio may be forced to sell if negotiations over an extension stall. Chelsea and Bournemouth have already had a £30m bid knocked back — so competition is fierce.
For Everton, replacing Michael Keane — whose contract expires this summer — makes Gila an urgent priority.
