Chelsea have reportedly made Benfica full-back Daniel Banjaqui their top January transfer target, according to TEAMtalk. Arsenal and Liverpool are also said to be monitoring the 18-year-old.

Why Chelsea Want Daniel Banjaqui
Reece James’s injury has reportedly prompted the Blues to strengthen at full-back. TEAMtalk claims Benfica could allow him to leave if their £38m valuation is met, and Chelsea may even trigger his release clause.
Banjaqui’s Rise at Benfica
José Mourinho handed the Portugal U21 international his senior debut in a 2-0 Taça de Portugal win over Farense on 17 December 2025. He has made six first-team appearances since, three of them this season.
His best display came against AC Milan in the Champions League. He won ten ground duels, made seven tackles and seven recoveries, and completed 33 of 39 passes. Scout Jacek Lukig has called him “outstanding”.
A Fit for Chelsea’s Youth Strategy
Signing Banjaqui would match Chelsea’s policy of investing in young talent, following the successes of Cole Palmer and Estevao Willian. Xabi Alonso’s side already have Malo Gusto and new signing Marco Palestra on the right, so competition for places would be fierce.
Our Opinion
At £38m, Banjaqui looks a sensible long-term investment, and his Milan performance suggests he can handle elite football. With Gusto and Palestra available, though, it’s fair to ask whether Chelsea’s money would be better spent elsewhere. Competition from Arsenal and Liverpool could also push the price higher.
