Arsenal, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are all monitoring FC Porto defender Alberto Costa, according to Caught Offside. The reigning 2025/26 Primeira Liga champions have him protected by a hefty €65million release clause.

Alberto Costa’s Rise at Porto
The Portuguese right-back returned home after a brief six-month spell at Juventus, who sold him for slightly more than they paid in January 2025. He has since become a key figure in Porto’s title-winning side, featuring 47 times in all competitions last season. Those performances have clearly caught the eye of Europe’s elite.
Arsenal’s Interest and Tactical Fit
Arsenal boast one of the strongest defensive units on the continent, so a new right-back may not top Mikel Arteta’s list. The Gunners have also been linked with Bayer Leverkusen’s Jarell Quansah, which suggests a preference for someone who can cover both right-back and centre-back. Costa is primarily a full-back, and the €65million clause looks steep for a non-priority position.
Manchester United Weigh Up a Move
United are also keeping tabs on the defender, with reinforcements at right-back a possibility after Noussair Mazraoui was reportedly linked with AC Milan in the summer. The club have also been associated with Crystal Palace’s Tyrick Mitchell on the left flank. Porto may not receive the full clause amount, but Juventus’ 10 per cent sell-on clause gives the Portuguese side leverage to demand a substantial fee.
PSG’s Portuguese Connection
PSG remain busy in the market and are keen to strengthen the right-back position currently occupied by Achraf Hakimi. The French champions have also enjoyed success recruiting from Portugal in recent years.
Our Opinion on Costa’s Situation
Patience seems the sensible route for all three clubs. Each already has dependable options in that area, so there is little reason to pay a premium now. Monitoring Costa through the remainder of the season, then reassessing next summer, would be far shrewder business. Should Porto’s asking price drop, the conversation could change quickly.
