Chelsea are keeping tabs on Manchester City centre-back Abdukodir Khusanov as they weigh up defensive reinforcements for the winter window, according to Caught Offside.

Why Chelsea Are Interested in Khusanov
The 22-year-old Uzbekistan international arrived at the Etihad Stadium in early 2025 and has made 53 appearances, scoring along the way. Three other Premier League clubs are reportedly tracking him too, should his position at City change.
Game time looks like the crucial factor. Khusanov has started six matches under new manager Enzo Maresca this season, yet he was left on the bench for City’s last two league outings.
Defensive Problems at Stamford Bridge
Chelsea have endured a shaky start at the back, shipping 12 goals in their opening five Premier League games. Despite having five senior centre-backs, the Blues are yet to settle on a reliable partnership, which could prompt another signing in January.
Khusanov is young, physically imposing and already accustomed to English top-flight demands. His aggressive, front-foot approach suggests he could develop into a long-term starter.
Our Opinion on the Potential Transfer
In our view, the logic is sound. Chelsea need defensive stability, and Khusanov would arrive with plenty of room to improve rather than as a finished article, which suits a long-term project. Playing regularly at Stamford Bridge would also help his development far more than sitting on City’s bench.
However, we suspect City will be reluctant to sell, particularly to a Premier League rival. Persuading them could prove difficult and costly.
What Happens Next?
Much depends on Khusanov’s minutes between now and January. If he continues to drop out of Maresca’s plans, expect interest from Chelsea and the other suitors to intensify, and the defender himself may start pushing for a move. Chelsea’s own results will matter as well, since further defensive lapses would only heighten the urgency.
