Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly plotting a double raid on the forward market, with transfer insider Fabrizio Romano revealing that Liverpool winger Cody Gakpo remains firmly on the club’s radar alongside Manchester City’s Savinho.
The Lilywhites have been ravaged by injuries this summer. Dejan Kulusevski has been sidelined for over a year, Wilson Odobert faces an extended lay-off with a serious knee problem, and Mohammed Kudus struggled with fitness issues for much of last season after arriving from West Ham United. That leaves Mathys Tel as the only fully fit senior option out wide.
Speaking on his Here We Go Podcast, Romano said Spurs are still keeping an eye on Gakpo, hinting a move could happen if Liverpool decide to let him go.
Why Liverpool Are In No Rush To Sell
Gakpo is valued at around £51 million by Transfermarkt and has a contract running until 2030, giving Liverpool total control over his future. With Mohamed Salah already gone this summer, manager Andoni Iraola is unlikely to sanction another departure from an already stretched attack.
The Dutchman, at 6ft 4in, offers a rare blend of physicality and technical quality. Predominantly a left-winger, he has also operated centrally in the past and remains an efficient creator for teammates as well as a reliable outlet in behind.
Tottenham have already been busy rebuilding this summer, bringing in Andrew Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke at the back, plus Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes in midfield. A forward addition would complete a serious squad overhaul.
Verdict
Gakpo would be a genuine coup for Tottenham if they can prise him away, but Liverpool have little incentive to sell a 27-year-old they see as central to their future.
