Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Nottingham Forest fullback Neco Williams this summer, according to CaughtOffside — and it’s a move that makes plenty of sense.
Why Williams Is On United’s Radar
With Champions League football secured and Michael Carrick now confirmed as permanent manager, the Red Devils are preparing for a busy transfer window. Midfield remains the headline priority, but Carrick is also keen to add a versatile full-back capable of handling the gruelling demands of European football.
Enter Williams. The 25-year-old Welshman has been one of the Premier League’s most consistent fullbacks over the past three seasons, racking up 159 appearances for Forest and proving he can perform week in, week out at the top level. Crucially, his ability to operate on either flank gives Carrick a flexible, reliable option — exactly what United need in a congested fixture calendar.
The Price Won’t Be Cheap
Don’t expect this to be a straightforward deal. Williams still has three years remaining on his Forest contract, and with the Tricky Trees safe in the Premier League, they hold all the cards in negotiations. His £21m Transfermarkt valuation is likely a starting point, not a ceiling.
Making things even trickier, Newcastle, Aston Villa, and Everton are also circling — so United will need to move decisively.
Williams is a smart, low-risk signing for a side stepping back onto the European stage. If Carrick can get this one over the line, it’s a real statement of intent.
