Chelsea interested in Lautaro Martinez

Chelsea are reportedly readying a formal £86 million offer to sign Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martínez next summer — and honestly, it makes complete sense.

The Argentine has been nothing short of sensational at the San Siro. Since joining from Racing Club back in 2018, he’s racked up 171 goals and 54 assists, establishing himself as one of the deadliest centre-forwards in European football. This season alone, he’s netted 18 goals and chipped in four assists as Inter chase a historic 38th Italian title under Cristian Chivu.

Why Chelsea Need Him

The Blues’ striker problem isn’t exactly a secret. Joao Pedro has been impressive — nine goals in nine games recently, 14 in the league — but beyond him, it’s been thin. Marc Guiu and Liam Delap have mustered fewer than four league goals between them. Chelsea haven’t had a 20-goal striker since Diego Costa’s heroics in 2016–17. That’s nearly a decade of waiting.

Liam Rosenior’s 4-2-3-1 system cries out for a clinical, experienced number nine. Martínez fits that bill perfectly.

The Deal Could Hinge on Player Sales

According to Fichajes, Chelsea plan to fund the move through player sales — with Liam Delap among those potentially heading for the exit door. It’s a sensible bit of business if it comes off.

With Martinez reportedly reassessing his future following Inter’s Champions League exit, the timing feels right. Chelsea are coming for him — and this one could define their entire rebuild.
