Arsenal enter the race for 17-year-old Ligue 1 starlet

Arsenal are set to battle Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester United for highly-rated Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi. According to The Daily Briefing, the 17-year-old has emerged as one of Europe’s most exciting prospects, attracting attention from England’s elite clubs.

Bouaddi made headlines when he debuted for Lille against Brest in October 2023, just days after turning 16. Since then, the French teenager has gone from strength to strength, racking up nine Ligue 1 appearances in his debut season before enjoying a full breakthrough campaign last year, featuring 24 times. His composure, vision, and maturity beyond his years have earned rave reviews, with many already tipping him as a future star.

Arsenal’s midfield rebuild sparks fresh interest

The Gunners were previously monitoring Bouaddi as they reshaped their midfield following the departures of Thomas Partey and Jorginho. While Arsenal ultimately signed Brentford’s Christian Norgaard for his Premier League experience, Mikel Arteta remains keen on adding youthful energy and long-term potential. Bouaddi now sits firmly back on their radar, alongside Ajax’s Jorthy Mokio, as Arsenal look to secure one of Europe’s brightest young midfielders.

Liverpool and Manchester United also circling

Liverpool, who have been scouring the market for emerging midfield talent over the past two summers, are also seriously tracking Bouaddi. Meanwhile, Manchester United are weighing up future options in defensive midfield, with Bouaddi viewed as a candidate who could grow into a key role at Old Trafford.

The French prodigy remains under contract with Lille until 2027, meaning any deal will require a significant investment. While a January transfer cannot be ruled out, next summer appears the most likely time for a move, with the Premier League shaping up as his probable destination.
