Are United Preparing for Evra Exit?

Patrice Evra has revealed that he could be set to leave Manchester United when his current contract with the club expires at the end of the season.

With David Moyes still keen on signing Leighton Baines from former club, Everton. Evra’s time at Old Trafford appears to be in doubt after the left-back admitted he could leave the club next summer.

Despite chasing Baines, and reportedly Real Madrid’s Fabio Coentrao, United are still reluctant to part with Evra at the end of his contract, and the club are still hoping the 32-year-old will extend his seven-year stay at Old Trafford, during which time the Frenchman has helped to land five Premier League titles and a UEFA Champions League crown.

“It is a personal thing (not signing a new contract). It is not that Manchester United do not want me to sign a new contract. Manchester United would like me to finish my career there, but this is something personal,” said Evra.

While Moyes will rightly want to keep a player of Evra’s experience at the club, while it would be hard to convince the France international to remain at the club in a back-up role with the club he joined in 2006.

Talk linking Evra with leaving the club has shone a light on a United defensive unit that is going through a transition.

With Evra, Rio Ferdinand, and Nemanja Vidic all coming to the end of their United careers, the club are going to be left with a lot of work to do to ensure those defenders coming through can step into the shoes when the time comes.
