Sunderland sign Argentine defender Santiago Vergini on loan


Sunderland have confirmed the second signing of January transfer window by acquiring the Argentine defender Santiago Vergini on loan from Primera División side Estudiantes for the rest of the season.

The Black Cats are currently second from the bottom with 18 points in the Premier League table has now added two fresh defenders into their squad in order to avoid relegation.

The 25-year-old Vergini, who won his first international cap in 2012 and now will ready to wear the number 27 shirt to join fellow new Spanish player Marcos Alonso at the Stadium of Light.

The Centre-back started his career with Olimpia in 2009 then after he made his first loan move to Serie A side Verona in 2011.

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet is aware of his side’s relegation and the signing of duo defender would give him a great boost for the remainder of the 2013-14 season.
